A new convergence promoter is presented for use with the class of methods that require a partitioning of the whole set of equations describing a distillation column (as in the theta -method). Thus, it gives the advantages shown by Smith-Brinkley when selecting the feed tray temperature as a dominant variable for the whole convergence. The results show the proposed method is a valuable alternative to existing methods and another step in the search for new, quick and reliable computational methods. This article deals with a new method which, so far, may be applied for conventional distillation columns, even if further implementations are foreseen to cover a wide range of situations.

Abstract
A new convergence promoter is presented for use with the class of methods that require a partitioning of the whole set of equations describing a distillation column (as in the theta -method). Thus, it gives the advantages shown by Smith-Brinkley when selecting the feed tray temperature as a dominant variable for the whole convergence. The results show the proposed method is a valuable alternative to existing methods and another step in the search for new, quick and reliable computational methods. This article deals with a new method which, so far, may be applied for conventional distillation columns, even if further implementations are foreseen to cover a wide range of situations.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
