A new advanced control structure, based on a nonlinear feedforward strategy, has been developed on the basis of a rigorous dynamic model in the case of ethanol dehydration using benzene as entrainer, but the principle can be applied to many other heteroazeo-columns. The study is not restricted to the single heterogeneous column, but extends to the sequence of towers which includes the entrainer recovery column with the corresponding recycle stream. Comparisons among traditional and modified control structure are presented and discussed in terms of quality products and plant operability. (from Authors)
