The structure on the subnanometer scale of hardened cement paste was investigated by means of positron annihilation lifetime spectroscopy. Ordinary Portland cement pastes were cured at room temperature and at 100% relative humidity; the measurements were performed at different ageing times in order to assess the evolution of nanopores. The lifetime spectra were rather complex, showing three different long-lived components which reflect ortho-positronium decay in the pores. From the positron data an estimate of the first two moments of the distribution of the radii of the nanopores was obtained.

Abstract
The structure on the subnanometer scale of hardened cement paste was investigated by means of positron annihilation lifetime spectroscopy. Ordinary Portland cement pastes were cured at room temperature and at 100% relative humidity; the measurements were performed at different ageing times in order to assess the evolution of nanopores. The lifetime spectra were rather complex, showing three different long-lived components which reflect ortho-positronium decay in the pores. From the positron data an estimate of the first two moments of the distribution of the radii of the nanopores was obtained.File in questo prodotto:
