In 1961 Cariplo, a public bank located in Milan, sponsored an architecture competition for wich a fountain was to be built in the huge square just in front of Porta Garibaldi Station. Baldessari designed a monumental composition of four concrete sails, surrounding a very tall vertical element, a 40 meters height central double cone. The project followed a personal design research, related to Baldessari’s futuristic and expressionist education, which influenced his dynamic concept of architecture surfaces and urban space. Baldessari’s purpose lives in the archive documents: sketches, drawings, maquettes, papers, notes, bills, and so on. Despite the incoherence of drawings, the documentation allows the study of the shape and the urban rendering of the architect’s suggestion of mirrors play between the fountains reflective surfaces and the sides of the square.

Abstract
Despite the incoherence of drawings, the documentation allows the study of the shape and the urban rendering of the architect’s suggestion of mirrors play between the fountains reflective surfaces and the sides of the square.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
