During the railway axles’ service life, fatigue is a major process resulting in structural degradation and failure. Experience with existing axles has indicated that, even when the axles are operated to the service loads, failure can happen due to the synergetic effect of both corrosion and cyclic loads. In the present paper a modified Murtaza and Akid empirical model has been employed to predict the fatigue crack growth rates, assisted by corrosion of rainwater, for railway axles material. The predictive model for corrosion fatigue crack growth has been applied to estimate the corrosion fatigue life of two axles during experimental full scale tests.

Abstract
During the railway axles’ service life, fatigue is a major process resulting in structural degradation and failure. Experience with existing axles has indicated that, even when the axles are operated to the service loads, failure can happen due to the synergetic effect of both corrosion and cyclic loads. In the present paper a modified Murtaza and Akid empirical model has been employed to predict the fatigue crack growth rates, assisted by corrosion of rainwater, for railway axles material. The predictive model for corrosion fatigue crack growth has been applied to estimate the corrosion fatigue life of two axles during experimental full scale tests.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
