The aim of this work is to evaluate the effect of different densities of hybrid aluminum polymer foam (polymer foam structures with integrated aluminum foam granules) on the frequency behavior of a foam filled steel structure with different ratios between steel and foam masses. The structure is composed by three steel tubes with a welded flange at both ends bolted together to form a portal grounded by its free ends. All fillings caused the modes above 2000 Hz to disappear and in general it is possible to obtain an improvement in damping ratio with a slight reduction in modal stiffness for low frequency modes.

Abstract
The aim of this work is to evaluate the effect of different densities of hybrid aluminum polymer foam (polymer foam structures with integrated aluminum foam granules) on the frequency behavior of a foam filled steel structure with different ratios between steel and foam masses. The structure is composed by three steel tubes with a welded flange at both ends bolted together to form a portal grounded by its free ends. All fillings caused the modes above 2000 Hz to disappear and in general it is possible to obtain an improvement in damping ratio with a slight reduction in modal stiffness for low frequency modes.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
