Given the growing importance of sustainability study in supply chain management, this paper aims at identifying a comprehensive set of sustainable drivers, supply chain management practices and performance and at understanding the relationships among these elements with particular emphasis that the adoption of each practice has in terms of sustainability and supply chain performance. Synergies and trade-offs among performance will be underlined. Given the importance of the food industry for the Italian economy and for sustainability issues, the analysis has been focused on this industry, analyzing in particular the meat supply chain through multiple case studies.
