The paper focuses on the use of haptic technologies for the design of users’ haptic perception in the interaction with components of consumer products. This is an important issue that concurs in creating the emotional response of the first contact with products that, combined with aesthetics aspects, influences the purchasing process. Furthermore, haptic interaction design is important even from a technical point of view, since it is a key component in the ergonomic validation of a product. The paper presents two case studies that have been implemented with different hardware and software haptic technologies today commercially available, where we have identified the requirements for a multimodal application based on haptic interaction that would enable the design of haptic interaction components of consumer products.
