This contribution illustrates scientific perspectives and educational aims of the author, as the new Director of Doctorate in Design, at Dipartimento Incaco, Politecnico di Milano. In occasion of the opening of the 25th cycle, the authors thinks over the relationship between “research and design”, clarifying the importance of the “centrality of design” in design research, the role of design in our societies, in particular as a lever for innovation in industrial productions.
