Renaissance and neo-Renaissance in Nineetenth-century Italy: evaluations and occurrences in applied arts and architectural periodicals. Nineteenth-century periodicals provide clear evidence of the growing success encountered by Renaissance art and culture in the Italian milieu following the political unification. Such phenomenon is read through the pages of various architectural and applied arts magazines focusing on some of the most significant aspects that promoted Renaissance revival. Among them the revaluation of the arts and crafts and of the ancient bottega, the desire to achieve again the artistic leadership that belonged to Italy in the 15th and 16th centuries, the attractive shifting between the ancient and the modern, the harmonious balance between the magnificence and variety of the decorative realm and the well established system of principles and architectural rules.
