The architecture of Andrea Cochran works on the tension between place and landscape. Ground, surfaces, walls, trees, shrubs, stones, metals and water are presented close up, for the perceptible experience of crossing and touching and, at the same time, they are ordered, assembled, and shake to construct precise forms, measured spaces, geometries and sequences. This way of looking at landscape architecture is the result of the background of Andrea Cochran, who trained in the northeastern US, studied at Harvard, did apprenticeship with Sert and then set up professional practice in California. In this region, marked by the presence of some great exponents of modernist landscape (Garret Eckbo, Lawrence Halprin, Peter Walker) landscape architecture was capable of transforming a territory to make it livable, designing at different scales: from cities, to Major infrastructure to natural settings.
