Abstract

Nowadays the numerical failure simulations are becoming popular in industrial applications; in this optics, the necessity to have a reliable failure criterion easy to calibrate is fundamental. In this work the more recent Bao-Wierzbicki failure criterion has been calibrated by testing various specimens made of Ti-6Al-4V on a multiaxial test machine. FE models have been intensively used during the calibration activity in order to obtain an accurate stress-strain state at the failure conditions. The material calibration has been successively used to simulate the slant fracture of a helicopter main rotor hub.
