The basic assumption of this paper is that, by interpreting the interaction with a web application as a kind of dialog, linguistics can help improving the way we conceive, design and implement web (or even multi-channel) applications. It has often been said that browsing through a web-site (or any hypertext) can be compared to a dialogue. It has not been attempted, yet, however, to derive practical implications: designing web sites as “dialogue generators”, i.e. devices capable of supporting several different conversations with different types of users. In addition, convincing linguistic theories, on this very peculiar form of dialogue, have not been proposed yet.

Abstract
The basic assumption of this paper is that, by interpreting the interaction with a web application as a kind of dialog, linguistics can help improving the way we conceive, design and implement web (or even multi-channel) applications. It has often been said that browsing through a web-site (or any hypertext) can be compared to a dialogue. It has not been attempted, yet, however, to derive practical implications: designing web sites as “dialogue generators”, i.e. devices capable of supporting several different conversations with different types of users. In addition, convincing linguistic theories, on this very peculiar form of dialogue, have not been proposed yet.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
