Geometrical Patterns in Environmental Design. The Reconfiguration of the Amalfi Seafront

This work aims to give some remarks about the links between Geometry and Graphics in the environmental design, basing on a projectual research on the city of Amalfi, a well known historical place of the italian southwestern coast. In that place, the cohexistence of architecture and nature, the long history of the spontaneous buildings and monumens, growt in the rough profiles of the rocks, seemed to be a good base to test several hypothesis for a geometrical reconfiguration, including both the restoration of the extant part and a new seafront widening. The work hereby emphasizes the irreplceable role of the geometrical representation, both regarded as a working tool and as a thinking tool, in short, as a semanthical instrument to fulfill the spatial knowledge and the spatial invention, in the projectual match.
