The total stiffness matrix of a heap of packed grains is determined through the analysis of grain-to-grain contact in incremental deformation regime. The obtained stiffness takes into account possible frictional sliding, relative rotation, contact deformability and curvature of grain boundaries. The spectral analysis of the stiffness matrix permits to evaluate the stability of the heap: examples on two specific grain clusters are presented.

Abstract
The total stiffness matrix of a heap of packed grains is determined through the analysis of grain-to-grain contact in incremental deformation regime. The obtained stiffness takes into account possible frictional sliding, relative rotation, contact deformability and curvature of grain boundaries. The spectral analysis of the stiffness matrix permits to evaluate the stability of the heap: examples on two specific grain clusters are presented.File in questo prodotto:
