A brief summary of the stents is here proposed with particular attention to the technological development in the stent area. Materials properties, design requirement and market aspects have been the driving forces in the stent development. Since the introduction of stent in 1988 by Palmaz a large number of people has taken advantage from percutaneous stent intervention. Clinical application has increased and the stenting experience has led to new concepts of devices throughout the years: from bare metal stents to drug eluting stents. Other platform such as bioabsorbable stents have been studied with promising results. In parallel, technologies have increased and developed to fulfil the new stent requirements.
