This paper describes the design steps of two types of Maglev levitators, the first equipped with coils only and the other hybrid (coils + permanent magnets); the design has two features: − the studied levitator is conceived in electromagnetic similitude with a real one; − the design is based on an improved modelling of the quantities concerning the air-gap. After the analysis of the criteria used for the similitude, the paper shows the design of the two levitator types.
