Recently, a thorough restoration intervention has begun throughout the entire complex of the St.Abbondio Abbey complex in Como, Italy, beginning with documentation and condition assessment of the each element of the buildings and an examination of the stucco and plaster. The article reports the results of analysis of these materials found out in different areas of the complex (IR thermography, stratigraphic and chemical/physical testing). The results confirmed the hypothesis regarding the historic evolution of the complex and supply a range of options for the preservation intervention
