ABSTRACT The improvement in design of bridges using Direct Displacement Based Design (DDBD) suggested extending the displacement-based approach to assessment. In this paper a Direct Displacement Based Assessment (DDBA) method is proposed for multi-span reinforced concrete bridges. DDBA method has been applied on 3 hypothetical bridge configurations, and the results are compared with Force-Based Assessment. The verification of both displacement based and force based methods have been made by carrying out Incremental Dynamic Analysis (IDA) with a series of response spectrum compatible accelerograms.
