Abstract

In the last decade, the Fischer-Tropsch synthesis, the catalytic conversion of synthesis gas into hydrocarbons, has received great attention as a powerful way of converting natural gas, coal and biomasses to liquid hydrocarbons. Since 1998 Politecnico di Milano and Eni SpA work together to study some of the fundamental aspects of this process, like the mechanism, the kinetics, the catalysts and the reactors. A review of the main results obtained within this cooperation is reported in this work.
