The paper accounts for the results of an international research initiative sponsored by IBM and held by the School of Management of Politecnico di Milano and aimed at investigating the use of eProcurement for IT purchases. The main purpose was to understand the benefits for customers and suppliers coming from the use of eChannels for the exchange of IT goods and services. In particular, the research objectives were the following: 1. Provide a theoretical framework for eProcurement; 2. Identify the relevant players in the B2B eProcurement market; 3. Identify the prevailing models for eProcurement implementation; 4. Investigate the actual adoption of eProcurement tools and market evolution and trends by major international firms in different industries. The research is based on an extensive field research performed through 49 interviews; results were supported also by a review of scientific and managerial literature on eProcurement and of secondary sources.
