Recensione. Josep Lluis Mateo is one of the leading exponents of the Barcelona “school”. This is shown by his achievements, his theoretical teaching and his crucial leadership of the journal Quaderns over ten important years in the history of Barcelona and Catalonia, from 1981 to 1990. Mateo’s work passed through an initial Barcelona-style “orthodoxy” during the 1980s, which perhaps levelled out on a high in the late 1990s.
