Abstract

Many relevant players both in the Museums and ICT communities invested time and resources creating pilot projects and applications ranging between 3D reconstructions, image based ren-dering and virtual museums. We are now in a position to consider if such investments are effec-tively useful and really increase and diffuse knowledge in the arts, sciences and history and if they satisfy users’ requirements. Do virtual museums really provide added value to end-users? Museums, content providers and users are ready and willing new technologies for cultural herit-age? Do ICT tools really help content holders and or end-users? Four experts coming from four different countries will introduce their own experiences and points of view: digital rights management, virtual museums, cultural services and monument conserva-tion systems. The discussion is expected to develop new mixed-economy models for exploita-tion, repackaging and re-use. Contributions from the floor are very welcome. www.medicif.org/nevents/MEDICI_events/Cebit2003/Ronchi.htm
