A new optical fiber sensor is proposed to monitor pantograph strain in high-speed railway. The sensor is based on a Michelson’s interferometer with a 3x3 coupler and employs standard 1550nm optical communications. The use optical fiber ensures excellent thermal and electrical insulation and allows non-invasive measures. A test rig simulating experimentally the pantograph-catenary contact force validates the sensor performance compared with standard electric sensors.

Abstract
A new optical fiber sensor is proposed to monitor pantograph strain in high-speed railway. The sensor is based on a Michelson’s interferometer with a 3x3 coupler and employs standard 1550nm optical communications. The use optical fiber ensures excellent thermal and electrical insulation and allows non-invasive measures. A test rig simulating experimentally the pantograph-catenary contact force validates the sensor performance compared with standard electric sensors.File in questo prodotto:
