During the measurement campaign carried out at Renacci, near Florence, two new designed components of the catenary system have been installed, tested and left into service for a further one year test: 1) aluminium alloy suspension; 2) damped elastic dropper. 1) Two types of a new aluminium suspensions have been tested both on 320 mm2 and 270 mm2, 25 kV designed for AV; a third type has been tested on 610 mm2, 3 kV catenary installed on the Direttissima Rome-Florence; the same catenary is also foreseen for AV lines in particular conditions. The new suspensions were installed at night, during the allowed intervals: the installation proved that one of the design basis, easiness of installation, was fully achieved thanks to the aluminium light weight, the couplings by pins instead of bolts and the discontinuous adjustment. Considerations about design principles, constructive materials, functional and maintenance aspects are briefly developed in this paper. 2) Damped elastic droppers have been installed on the 270 mm2/25 kV catenary. These innovative devices are formed by an elastic ring and a single wire, placed along a vertical diameter, which allows to preserve the geometry of the catenary. The laboratory tests carried out in order to optimise the design and the most significant results gathered during the measurement campaign held at Renacci are shown in the paper.

Abstract
The laboratory tests carried out in order to optimise the design and the most significant results gathered during the measurement campaign held at Renacci are shown in the paper.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
