The debate carried out during the 50s, at the last Ciam Conferences focused on the city, seen not in terms of its structural aspects, but as an organism, a living structure. In this perspective, the architects spoke about the Heart of the City (Hoddesdon 1951) and the Habitat (Aix-enProvence 1953) in order to define places that have value for their inhabitants insofar as they are capable of recalling the archetypal relation between the definition of a space and the ritual of a community, also at a time when the new scale of the urban phenomenon in terms of extension and complexity had reached a level wholly incommensurable with anything previous.

Abstract
The debate carried out during the 50s, at the last Ciam Conferences focused on the city, seen not in terms of its structural aspects, but as an organism, a living structure. In this perspective, the architects spoke about the Heart of the City (Hoddesdon 1951) and the Habitat (Aix-enProvence 1953) in order to define places that have value for their inhabitants insofar as they are capable of recalling the archetypal relation between the definition of a space and the ritual of a community, also at a time when the new scale of the urban phenomenon in terms of extension and complexity had reached a level wholly incommensurable with anything previous.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
