A procedure for the explicit evaluation of the stationarity points (and hence of absolute maxima and minima) of the strain energy density in anisotropic solids is proposed. The general formulation is provided regardless of the symmetry class to which the solid belongs. Then an illustrative example is given, with application to the case of tetragonal symmetry.

Abstract
