Brief microwave irradiation of heterogeneous mixtures of oligoglycerols and dialkyl carbonates induces smooth and selective synthesis of 5-membered cyclic carbonates. The influence of parameters such as temperature, time, possible co-solvents and volume is discussed and through some examples it is demonstrated the possibility to prepare pure diastereoisomers of linear oligoglycerol carbonates.
