A numerical study is presented of the grouting of granular soils based on the use of diluted silicate solutions. This represents one of the possible techniques to drastically reduce the "natural" permeability of soils and to limit the seepage flow towards underground facilities. First, the equations governing the grouting process, seen as an advective-diffusive-dispersive flow of a liquid containing a solute, are outlined and their finite element formulation is presented. Then, an empirical law is discussed that allows introducing in the calculations the variation of permeability produced by grouting. Finally, the results of a numerical simulation are presented and some conclusions are drawn on the effectiveness of the treatment.
