This paper describes a mathematical model reproducing the longitudinal dynamic behaviour of a passenger orfreight train. The aim of the simulation process is to perform a simple analysis of the relative displacements of each railway vehicle composing the train, an analysis of the longitudinal acceleration/deceleration rate and an estimation of the value of the traction and compression forces acting on the coupler, during the acceleration and braking phases by means of a dedicated modelling of the standard UIC coupling system.

Abstract
