A versatile electronic module is presented, designed for operating as Single Photon Avalanche Diode any type of ordinary silicon Avalanche Photodiode (APD) with any breakdown voltage up to 500V. It includes circuits for accurate and fast active quenching and photon timing, Peltier cooler control and a safety feature that prevents catastrophic failure of the detector due to accidental excessive illumination.
