EDIFICIO PUBBLICO CON CASA A TORRE, REGENSBURG, GERMANIA (2004) Aiòn 7/2004 Un progetto la cui teoresi, per una sorta di fortuna, è stata da noi dedotta da una città fondamentale dei nostri studi di apprendistato, dedicati proprio al ruolo della “città gotica” quale momento ideale di definizione per le tesi del Movimento Moderno tedesco, oltre ogni loro definizione ideologica. Il nostro progetto - che ha ottenuto il pregio di un’insperata realizzazione: la morte di ogni possibile alibi assieme all’accettazione di un suo irrevocabile destino - si fondava sulla reinterpretazione che la Regensburg medioevale ha svolto del proprio originario piano romano di fondazione (la Castra Regina) secondo le forme di un gotico severo in cui il tipo edilizio della “torre”, da norma indiscussa, veniva piegandosi a segno delle implicite e non transeunti gerarchie del piano urbano. “Neues Bauen in Alten Städten”: questo il nome del Concorso Internazionale che coinvolgeva ben tre città d’alto lignaggio tedesche. Esso richiedeva un aperto confronto con l’ideologia del “Nuovo” – un termine che in terra tedesca non ammette alternative, nutrito com’è di dolenti ideologie quanto d’insondabili sensi di colpa – imponendo al progetto la virtù di sostenere una sorta di sguardo impietoso sui propri fondamenti e sulle proprie presunte certezze, obbligandolo altresì a rimettere in discussione ogni possibile fede in una creduta e/o supposta formatività dell’Architettura nei rapporti con ogni dato ideologico. PUBLIC BUILDING WITH TOWER HOUSE in Regensburg, Germany (2004) Aion 7/2004 Our theorizing behind this project, by fortunate happenstance, was drawn from our fundamental urban studies and apprenticeship, dedicated precisely to the role of the "Gothic City" held as the ideal by which to study the theses of the German Modern Movement free of any ideological definition. Our project - which has had the advantage of its unexpected realization, thus putting an end to any possible alibi with the acceptance of an irrevocable destiny - derived from the reinterpretation and metamorphosis of medieval Regensburg from its founding Roman urban plan (the Castra Regina) adhering to the severe Gothic forms in which the "tower" type, the undisputed architectonic norm, can be seen to yield to the implicit and non-transient hierarchies of the urban plan. "Neues Bauen in Alten Städten" is the name given to the international competition involving three high-born German cities. It called for an open confrontation with the ideology of the "New" - a term that does not allow for equivocation on German soil, sustained as it is by painful ideologies of unfathomable guilt-by requiring the project display the virtue of maintaining a sort of merciless gaze upon its own foundations and alleged certainties, forcing it to call into question any possible faith in a received belief and/or a presumed causality in Architecture in relation to any given ideology.
