In Italy, 57% of school buildings are almost 50 years old and are char-acterized by poor energy performance, high climate impact, and inadequate Indoor Environmental Quality (IEQ). The urgent need to renovate these buildings in order to achieve carbon neutrality and improve indoor air quality has become a priority on the political agenda. Although the urgency of intervention is widely acknowl-edged, several barriers—related to both financial and cultural constraints—still hinder the large-scale renovation of school buildings. In this context, the RERoadS project aims to address this challenge by proposing a methodological framework based on three interconnected objectives: the implementation of a School Build-ing Renovation Passport in line with current EU directives; the development of dedicated Educational Paths aimed at raising environmental awareness within the school community and tailored to students at different educational levels; and the establishment of a School Advisory Board, a multidisciplinary group of external experts, such as, academics, school managers, local authorities, and policy makers, to provide qualified scientific support for renovation decision-making processes. This paper presents the RERoadS methodology and tools aimed at reshaping the Italian school building sector towards more effective renovation processes and increased sustainability awareness
