Most environmental assessment studies focus on global-scale impacts and indicators such as CO2 emissions and struggle to grasp local-scale phenomena. Through the Alpi Apuane marble quarries case study, the paper highlights the frequent neglect of local environmental repercussions of product manufacturing and the consequent need for local-scale environmental sustainability indicators (ESIs) to assess these impacts. A set of local-scale environmental indicators is produced by reviewing existing ESIs and their applicability to local contexts. The review consists of an inclusion procedure starting from a pool of more than 300 records extracted from existing literature on environ-mental indicators. The set is first categorised into eight Local Impact Categories (LICs) and then confronted with the impacts generated locally in the Alpi Apuane. The research identifies gaps in existing indicators, particularly in measuring aesthetic losses, and sets a starting point for new methodologies and indicators to address local envi-ronmental impacts, encouraging more comprehensive and localised approaches to sustainability assessment.

Abstract
The research identifies gaps in existing indicators, particularly in measuring aesthetic losses, and sets a starting point for new methodologies and indicators to address local envi-ronmental impacts, encouraging more comprehensive and localised approaches to sustainability assessment.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
