This contribution explores the role of exhibition and spatial design in Olympic ceremonies, interpreting it as a spatial, visual, and narrative device capable of conveying cultural identities, social tensions, and the spirit of its time. Through selected key moments in the history of the Olympic Games – from Berlin 1936 to Mexico City 1968 and Los Angeles 1984, up to Paris 2024 – the text traces the progressive transformation of Olympic staging from stadium-based scenography into an integrated system of space, graphic design, light, colour, gesture, and performance. What emerges is a conception of exhibition design as an ephemeral and multidisciplinary form of design, capable of expanding to the urban scale and creating collective images intended for global communication and memory.

Abstract
This contribution explores the role of exhibition and spatial design in Olympic ceremonies, interpreting it as a spatial, visual, and narrative device capable of conveying cultural identities, social tensions, and the spirit of its time. Through selected key moments in the history of the Olympic Games – from Berlin 1936 to Mexico City 1968 and Los Angeles 1984, up to Paris 2024 – the text traces the progressive transformation of Olympic staging from stadium-based scenography into an integrated system of space, graphic design, light, colour, gesture, and performance. What emerges is a conception of exhibition design as an ephemeral and multidisciplinary form of design, capable of expanding to the urban scale and creating collective images intended for global communication and memory.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
