Architectural education at UHasselt has developed through a pedagogical culture in which civic responsibility, disciplinary differentiation, and a critical engagement with existing conditions areclosely intertwined. Although the Faculty of Architecture and Arts took shape institutionally through the relatively recent incorporation into Hasselt University, its identity cannot be understood apart from the longer social history of Limburg, from the university’s civic mission, and from a conception of architectural formation grounded in concrete situations and in the transformative reading of reality. Within this framework, architecture is approached as a situated practice of interpretation, negotiation, and intervention. The relation between architecture, interior architecture, adaptive reuse, and research has acquired particular significance.
