Stemming from the NEST research internationalization project—funded by the DABC Department at the Politecnico di Milano—this essay focuses on the professional migration of Politecnico di Milano graduates in the post-World War II era. Starting in the 1940s, numerous designers trained at the Politecnico di Milano, attracted by the favorable economic situation in Argentina and commissioned by Italian and European companies expanding towards the Americas, decided to accept the challenges that the new world proposed. Particularly significant appear the experiences of Maurizio Mazzocchi and Marco Zanuso, who will end up activating networks of exchanges and comparisons with local professionals, laying the foundations for the reflection carried out in the following years in Italian universities, on the need for a new project syntax, gathering both the new social and disciplinary requests towards the renewal of the building sector, still linked to artisanal production practices
