Among the problems that most affect society today are the quality of the urban environment in microclimatic and environmental terms. Some specific impacts due to the environmental characteristics of urban centers - summer temperatures with poor day-night excursion, stormwater management, limited biodiversity, etc. - can be addressed through adaptation solutions that use processes of resource optimization, material circularity and sustainable use of vegetation. Genoa has strong issues from the point of view of urban comfort in relation to the heat island effect because the urbanization and waterproofing of the soils have not favored an adequate development of urban greenery. However, its dense and compact nature means that close to the city areas of great natural interest, rich in biodiversity can be identified. The report aims to highlight how the Targets related to the Green Transition and Digital Transformation can be preponderant for the redevelopment of a territory rich in potential, but fragile, threatened by climate change. Reference will be made to experiences of the Ecosystemics Research Group (DAD-UNIGE), which focuses its interests on the effects and performance of Nature Based Solutions to improve urban comfort and resilience. In the urban context of Milan, however, there are numerous research experiences conducted by the Textile Architecture Network (TAN) of the Politecnico di Milano, in which hyper-light materials are used to experiment innovative urban devices useful for the mitigation of environmental pollution and noise in public spaces, as well as for its thermo-luminous control. Moreover, the potential recovery of post-consumer textile waste - useful for the design of furniture and urban devices - is combined with the current need to promote circularity in production processes, creating the conditions to trigger virtuous experiences involving local communities. Three projects, funded by the University and situated in the metropolitan area of Milan, exemplify research applications aimed at environmental and social revitalization of urban spaces.
