The technical and esthetical possibilities of flexibility and translucency of both the photovoltaic polymeric cells and the lightweight solutions for closures, like membranes in architecture, have increased significantly in the last few years. Specifically, the current applications of flexible substrates and thin-film photovoltaic, deepening the two key choices for flexible photovoltaic in buildings, the thin film, as well as the organic one, are documented in the following chapter. The relevant potentials and constraints are underlined, considering the two crucial needs for building applications: increased transparency upon visible lights and varied color choices.

Abstract

The technical and esthetical possibilities of flexibility and translucency of both the photovoltaic polymeric cells and the lightweight solutions for closures, like membranes in architecture, have increased significantly in the last few years. Specifically, the current applications of flexible substrates and thin-film photovoltaic, deepening the two key choices for flexible photovoltaic in buildings, the thin film, as well as the organic one, are documented in the following chapter. The relevant potentials and constraints are underlined, considering the two crucial needs for building applications: increased transparency upon visible lights and varied color choices.
