Human-centric manufacturing and occupational noise: A review regarding what we know and what we should know

Although noise impacts on human well-being have been a topic for research and societies for a long time, empirical insights regarding the impact of occupational noise in manufacturing settings are surprisingly scarce. This paper provides a systematic review to outline the state-of-the-art in this segment and identify important and worthwhile fields for future research. Non-uniformity in effects was the dominant theme of the findings which could be related to the underexplored individuality and task-specificity features of the effects of occupational noise on humans This is strongly connected to the concept of human centric manufacturing as Industry 5.0 as the issue one dimension of human well-being and performance.
