Abstract

In Italy, the intensive hydroelectric exploitation of the early 20th century, combined with the effects of climate change, has led to the obsolescence of many hydropower houses and the rise of new renewable energy sources. Starting from these premises, the paper traces the historical evolution of this typology to understand the causes of its abandonment and, finally, proposes some contemporary reuse experiences. The outcome is to define intervention prototypes for the reuse of such heritage, strengthening its role in the contemporary mountain landscape.
