The upgrading of school spaces plays a crucial role at a time of significant change. The investigation of the strategies required to adapt contemporary educational spaces involves a diverse range of buildings and is linked to the need to rethink schools and learning methods. Abstract

The upgrading of school spaces plays a crucial role at a time of significant change. The investigation of the strategies required to adapt contemporary educational spaces involves a diverse range of buildings and is linked to the need to rethink schools and learning methods. This book, a collaboration between DAStU-Craft at the Politecnico di Milano, the School Building Department and the Education Department of the City of Milan, the Conseil d’Architecture, d’Urbanisme et de l’Environnement | CAUE of the City of Paris, and the architectural firm MUOTO and ChariterDalix, focuses on exploring a «shared horizon» as a tool for the decision-making and strategic planning processes for interventions on school architectures. The aim of gathering perspectives reflects the complexity and richness of the school and educational field. In this context, supporting the process of designing and implementing strategic policies in line with the latest developments within the European Union appears to be a genuine necessity for our public administrations. The volume introduces both French pilot projects characterised by institutional coordination between various city departments and specific interventions guided by innovative approaches, based on contemporary economic, ecological and pedagogical needs and documented in both the Milanese context and the Paris metropolitan area.
