The 21st century’s engagement with ruins reflects both the material remnants of our industrial past and the symbolic decay of modernity. This paper examines how contemporary society interacts with industrial ruins, exploring their dual nature as both “products” and “processes”. This perspective challenges traditional preservation notions and invites a rethinking of our approach to these spaces. The chapter proposes a methodological approach for assessing and post-producing industrial ruins, highlighting their potential to contribute to our understanding of history and identity in the hypermodern era.

Abstract
The 21st century’s engagement with ruins reflects both the material remnants of our industrial past and the symbolic decay of modernity. This paper examines how contemporary society interacts with industrial ruins, exploring their dual nature as both “products” and “processes”. This perspective challenges traditional preservation notions and invites a rethinking of our approach to these spaces. The chapter proposes a methodological approach for assessing and post-producing industrial ruins, highlighting their potential to contribute to our understanding of history and identity in the hypermodern era.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
