Art as a form of social engagement and militant criticism practised by cultural practitioners who were both artists and critics constitute the defining features of Enrico Crispolti’s activity from the 1970s onwards, providing the starting point for this essay. This particular historical period offered fertile ground for the development of a critically engaged approach and shared artistic practices aimed at interpreting the environment and the city. Working alongside artists with whom he shared a commitment to participatory processes and the social and historical analysis of specific contexts, Crispolti developed a distinctive conception of critical engagement. These years were therefore fundamental in shaping the scholar’s critical approach to environmental and social issues, as well as his teaching methodology, profoundly influencing the final four decades of his professional activity and life. The essay consequently focuses on the meaning of environmental art within Crispolti’s theoretical framework, presenting an initial systematic investigation of how this concept evolved from the 1970s to the 2000s, while examining its relationship with the changing historical context.

Abstract
The essay consequently focuses on the meaning of environmental art within Crispolti’s theoretical framework, presenting an initial systematic investigation of how this concept evolved from the 1970s to the 2000s, while examining its relationship with the changing historical context.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
