This essay investigates comfort as a design paradigm, showing how its spatial and symbolic meaning, which emerged in the modern domestic interior, has extended to contemporary urban space in the form of surveilled and reassuring environments. This often exclusionary vision is questioned through research conducted in North Turin, in the Aurora and Barriera neighbourhoods, where anti-domestic conditions emerge in relation to abandoned sites, informal practices and heterogeneous uses. Considering discomfort as a design resource, the research explores strategies that valorize uncertainty and plurality, drawing on the notions of unheimlich, delinking and opacity. The city thus appears as a complex terrain, where instability becomes opportunity for new forms of coexistence.

Abstract
The city thus appears as a complex terrain, where instability becomes opportunity for new forms of coexistence.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
