A reconfigurable Silicon photonic integrated circuit is presented that can perform mode demultiplexing and multiplexing of free-space beams. The circuit consists of optical antenna arrays and Mach-Zehnder-interferometer-based processors. Apart from multiple modes, capability of the device to handle multiple wavelengths and counter-propagating beams is demonstrated.
