The volume 'Le melanzane bucate di Seveso' reconstructs the origins and significance of the cycle of paintings created by Claudio Granaroli between 2020 and 2022 and devoted to the ICMESA industrial accident of 10 July 1976. Taking as its starting point an analysis of Marcella Ferrara’s investigative book 'Le donne di Seveso' (Editori Riuniti, 1977), which served as both a source of inspiration and an iconographic reference for the Milanese artist, the volume examines the markings and annotations left in the book by the painter and his sister Serena. It also offers a critical analysis of Granaroli’s work, which in this cycle moves between historical memory, testimonial narrative, and figurative reinterpretation. The volume includes an iconographic catalogue of the works, an essential chronology of the Seveso accident (1976–2026), and a concise biography of the artist. The study is situated within the fields of contemporary art history and cultural memory studies, with particular attention to the relationship between traumatic events, landscape, and pictorial symbolization.
