This contribution offers some reflections that combine the issues raised by a doctoral thesis currently in progress1 with those that emerged in the research referred to in this volume. The aim is to broaden the debate on the concepts of risk and community involvement, adopting a critical perspective oriented towards architectural co-design: the role of doctoral research, in the broader multidisciplinary context of the RETURN project2, was to bring the reason- ing back to the architectural scale, giving the topic of risk its proper spatial connotation, a dimension considered necessary to address the urgencies of the contemporary world in an effective and proactive way. Co-design with communities in contexts subject to natural risks is considered the starting point of this work, proposing a (co-)design-driven methodology aimed at the anti-fragility of territories, which develops in two phases: an ana- lytical-descriptive phase and a transformative one, synthesized by a participatory approach. The proposal for an architecture of permacrisis represents an attempt to systematize the questions and objectives that emerged in the research: it does not claim to be a solution to the outlined scenario, but it constitutes an opening for the development of alternative approaches in at-risk contexts.
