19. Design for Cultural Heritage. A Visionary Trajectory

The aim of this essay is to present the theoretical and pragmatic frame-work developed by Alberto Seassaro for the emergent research area of Design for cultural heritage, with a view to its institutional recognition.The birth and consolidation of the research area of design of cul-tural heritage (we will return later to the implications of this designa-tion of) offer an emblematic example of how all the actions undertaken by Alberto Seassaro in those years served the steadfast construction of the design system, through an inseparable interplay between scientiific-cultural thinking and political-institutional objectives.
