Abstract
What makes an interior design project cohesive? Beyond material consistency, it is the use of colour that gives character and identity to the domestic space. Every architect and every period have their own palette, where floor, walls and ceiling combine with the dominant colours of the chosen materials. While the 20th century and early rationalism fought their battle between pastel shades and primary colours, the weight of the times and war took on hues of green and brown. The explosion of optimism brought us back blues, mauves and pinks. Brighter in Gio Ponti’s designs, more refined in Viganò’s and more contrasting in Sottsass’. When the house becomes an artist's canvas, colour is its instrument. The percentage and intensity of colour increased more and more until the 1970s, when monochromatic homes were completely immersed in deep blues.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
